Only if he holds a personal licence will he be allowed to sell alcohol in his premises. In order to get the licence for his premises, he needs to apply for the same. The first step would be completion of an application form. This form must be accompanied by the fee of the application and a plan. The fee would depend upon various factors pertaining to the kind of activities that are to be taken up at the place and its location, etc. The person who holds the personal licence would be called the Designated Personal Supervisor (DPS) for the premise. A consent form by the DPS would also be attached to the application if he is the one applying for the premise licence. If its not him, then a consent form by the one who is applying should be attached.

The plan that has to go along with the application form should consist of all the minute details of the place for which the licence is being asked for. Details like the area, location, perimeter, boundary walls, internal walls, fixtures, furniture, stage, exit plan etc. all must be a part of the plan that is to be submitted. With the help of these details the authorities want to be sure of the fact the occurrence of the activities would not harm any person in any form. The safety is the major issue.

Once all these documentations are ready, the applicant must send them all to the authority to get the licence processed. After obtaining the licence, a notice must be displayed on the outer boundary of the premise for not less than 28 consecutive days from submitting the licence. The notice must be imprinted on a paper of A4 size or lager. It should be a pale blue paper using blank ink with font size not less than 16. The contents of the notice should include the name of the applicant, address of the premise and website and address of the licensing authority where verification of the licence can be made possible. A similar notice must be published in a newspaper at least once within 10 working days from the date of application.
