Get To Know Harlem Better After You Take A Tour
Have you ever been to the biggest city of the world
? If you have visited at least once then you would know what makes it different from all the other cities in the entire world. For those people who have never had the opportunity to see this city, this article would be an interesting reading material. New York City is divided into many small neighborhoods and among one of the Harlem is known to be the liveliest, friendliest and artistically the richest neighborhood of the entire city. The Harlem culture is unique among every other neighborhood in the city and all others in the entire United States of America.
When you take one of the Harlem tours you can see the ancient buildings that clearly show what this neighborhood has gone through the ages to become what it really is today. The history of this neighborhood is one of the richest among every civilization in the entire world. It dates to as far as 1658 when its foundation stone was laid as a Dutch village by the then governor Peter Stuyvesant. It started as a Dutch village where farms flourished and many notable persons started dwelling, but the unfortunate economic decline struck it in the 1830s which resulted in its destruction. The entire village was put up for auction and was sold in pieces. The once flourishing village turned a gruesome picture of shabby houses and shanty towns. It became a place where the African refugees took shelter and thus a new culture came to be introduced with them.
The new Harlem culture got mixed with the African culture and it changed the existing one deeply. With the passage of time many new people started arriving in this lowland because of its cheap houses and rents and as people from different nations and ethnics started dwelling here their traditions and rituals started blending in with the already present way of life. After the passage of a long time, authorities took notice of the dwellings here and this neighborhood was annexed in the New York City. It started to get in better shape after that and the first modern civilization was formed in the 19th century. With the construction of the first single family houses it became to be known as a residential area where many white Americans bought homes and started living among the other races already living here.
Today Harlem tours will give you an opportunity to witness all the historical changes and developments in the area which gave shape to the modern Harlem. Today this place is known as one of the richest and the most populated neighborhood of the New York City. It hosts the world famous street known as the fifth avenue which holds many showrooms of the most famous brands in the world such as Armani, D&G and Chanel. Apart from the clothing industry it also has showrooms of electronics and eatables. The famous Apollo Theater is known to be the platform where many stars of today got the opportunity to showcase their talent and start their successful careers. Harlem holds a significant value in history and development of New York.
