Although computer technology is advancing fast and prices are getting lower, it's still hard to find good deals on laptops. The best the average consumer can do is get a 10% discount, or free shipping from Best Buy or Amazon. What most people don't know is there's a new phenomenon spreading across the internet, called penny auctions. These auctions let consumers get valuable products at up to 95% off retail prices. And the number one prize category on these sites is electronics.

Wouldn't it be nice to get a Windows NetBook, worth $199.99, for only $9.80? Or what about a $100 Best Buy gift card for only $0.13? These are just a couple items recently won on a couple different penny auction sites. And while these deals may sound great, it's important to keep in mind not everyone wins. Here's a couple more items recently won: Apple iPad worth $799.99 for only $47.05, and an Apple iMac 21-inch Desktop worth $1499.00 for only $59.46.

No matter what kind of laptop you're looking for, you can probably find it on a penny auction site. Before looking though, you should have an idea of what kind of laptop you want. What will you need it for? Work, school, or personal use? Think of buying a laptop like an investment, and go about it accordingly. Do your research, and look at all your buying options.

Many people get great deals with penny auctions, but there's also many people that don't win. When you decide on a laptop you want, search around the internet to see who's offering the best price. Typing the laptop name into Google will usually bring up the best prices. Then look on penny auctions, if you find your laptop being auctioned consider if you want to bid for it.

Bidding works like this. You purchase bids on a PA site, which usually go for $0.50 to $1.00 each. Then you place bids on the item you want to win. Each time you or someone else bids, the timer goes up by a few seconds and the auction prices goes up by one cent. The final bidder then gets to purchase the item at the auction price (number of bids x one penny). So if you place 20 bids to win the item, and the final auction price is $50, you'll be paying $70 plus shipping.
