Get the basics right in your computer

With computer hardware and software becoming more user friendly you as the end user don't need to worry about relying on hardware engineers as you may be able to diagnose and fix the problems of your PC yourself. While fixing your computer you need to acquaint yourself with four basic components that make a computer. A computer system cannot function if even one of these computer components is missing.

1. Motherboard:

The motherboard or "mobo" for short sets the foundation for all components in the computer. All basic components of the PC are in some way or another connected or attached to this board-the CPU, the memory, the graphic card, the hard drive, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. Other computer peripherals such as the printer, speakers, joystick, scanner etc work accordingly when connected to the motherboard through USB ports. Certain motherboards come with an AGP slot whereas certain mother boards come with a PCI slot. The one with the PCI slot allows the user to modify components such as installing Graphic chips for games.

2. Central Processing Unit (CPU).

The central processing unit considered to be the brain of the computer is a core computer component. The processing speed of the computer is determined by the speed of the CPU. Most of the mathematical calculations done by the computer are mostly done by the CPU.

3. Memory: Computer components such as Random Access Memory chip helps the computer to process all the visual graphics in a computer. In case you are a compulsive gamer then you may need to install an additional Graphic card for a higher resolution. A PC with a basic configuration can run faster with a minimum of 512 MB of RAM. The PC will be able to run several programs at a time depending on the capacity of the RAM.

4. Hard drive: Hard drive or the disk drive is that component of the computer which provides the storage space that you need for storing your data. In case of a system break down the data stored in the hard drive of your PC remains intact. The storage capacity of an average Pentium 4 processor varies from 40 GB to 200 GB onwards. It all depends for what purpose you're going to use the PC for whether you're using it just for your Office assignments or for entertainment purposes such as storing songs, games and movies.

Choosing computer components has never been an easy task as there is always a clutter of a variety of products available in the market. Thus any amateur PC user with limited knowledge would be confused. So it is essential for any PC user to get acquainted with the basic computer components when experimenting with his/her PC.

When you buy computer components from the local vendor, see that he sells you genuine parts for your PC. See that they also offer you a warranty for those parts. See that the brand is well known in the market and not some cheap imitation that just proves to be eye candy.
