Check out all the icons present on the desktop of your PC and decide if you really need them. Every time when you restart or refresh your PC, Windows has to load the desktop shortcuts one by one. Therefore, if you have many icons on the desktop, it will take a longer time to load the operating system. If you install a good anti-virus in your PC, it is not essential to scan your system every time when it is started.

Defrag your pc. It is important that you learn how to defrag your computer on a consistent basis as that will help your computer get rid of all the files and downloads that can be slowing your system down. As we all use our system we are constantly downloading information that can cause our system to become slower and even freeze up at times.

It could be a normal thing, and that the machine is aggressively indexing all your files, so your searches come up fast, (ironic that it slows down your machine so that later... it can be fast) or more likely that your computer has joined the borg collective and is using all of it's power to be the best bot it can be in the botnet army.
