Get your pub ready for the World Cup

With just over a week until the start of the World Cup 2010, is your pub fully prepared? If not just follow this brief guide which will ensure you have everything ready in time for kick off.

Decorations are key for getting into the spirit. Putting up flags and banners on both the inside and outside of your pub will let customers know that they can watch the games here. Putting posters, buntings and balloons inside your premises will prepare the building for the celebrations and help get staff into the football mood.

You can never have too many televisions when the football's on and you might even want to invest in a big screen. Having a designated area where the majority of supporters can sit and watch will free up space at the bar, which is a good way of ensuring that everyone gets served.

To attract new customers why not run some World Cup promotions, special offers on food and drink will keep old customers happy whilst drawing new customers in.

When showing big games make sure you have enough of the 3 S': staff, stock and stools. If you are running promotions in an effort to attract large groups the pub is likely to be busy, so ensure you have enough staff. Unsurprisingly there will be times in a game when the bar is more chaotic or busy, customers are more likely to come back if they remember that the service at the bar was good.

Make sure you have enough stock, the last thing you want is to run out because if your alcohol supply decreases, so will your customer numbers. Although some customers will prefer to stand ensure you have enough seating, small bar stools are ideal as they can be moved easily and take up little space.

With three matches a day until the knock out stages, there will be some customers who plan on watching them all. Why not cater for them with some pre-match entertainment. Quizzes, sweepstakes and football trivia and will stop customers venturing elsewhere between games, making your pub the place to be for anyone with football fever.
