Getting Around In Bangkok
Bangkok is a cultural phenomenon, a tourists treasure and a shopping heaven! It is
one of the most compelling, contrasting and cosmopolitan city from all of Asias best. With so much to do here, you are definitely going to find at least a hand full that interests you. Be it the dazzling temples, the eclectic markets, hotels of all types and sizes, huge shopping malls, gleaming palaces, and amazing nightlife and hundreds of things in between all that.
Due to its location being very close to the equator, Bangkok has a tropical climate all year round and it claims to be the hottest city in the world. Along with the heat is the severe humidity neither of which reduces much even during the nights. The months in between April to May are the hottest of the year. After which the monsoons begin anywhere between May to October. After the severe heat, many folks welcome the pouring rain and thunderstorms.
The currency in Bangkok is known as Baht. One US Dollar is equal to Thirty Baht. Furthermore, the time zone here is the same as Vietnam and Laos. More specifically, it is seven hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time. The usual voltage around the city is 220 volts and includes either two flat balder or else round two pin plugs. SIM cards are available at almost any of the convenience stores and at the network providers outlets which are usually located inside malls. To make a local landline call, dial 02 followed by the seven digit number. If you want to call outside Bangkok, you start with 0, the area code, and then the six digit number. Mobile phone calls need a three digit prefix followed by a seven digit number.
Traffic in Bangkok is crazy, particularly during rush hours. It is best to avoid road transport during these times. You could opt for the sky train or the underground rail system which could take you to your destination much faster. Taxis are countless so you could just stop one from anywhere on the pavement. Flights to Bangkok are available from all major destinations. With the airline industry getting increasingly competitive, it would not be a big task to find cheap flights to Bangkok. Long distance flights such as flights from London to Bangkok are also becoming increasingly popular as more and more people from the West wish to travel to Asia as tourists.
