Getting Creative With Candle Crafting
Many schools and clubs for children will regularly use craft supplies
, and candle craft may be an activity that may children and teachers alike have not yet tried. There are many craft ideas based around candles. It is possible to decorate the candles themselves, paint designs onto glass candle holders and even create unique shaped candles from mouldable coloured wax!
To paint candles, it is first necessary to purchase a variety of small plain candles for children to use as a canvas.
There is a choice of different shapes available, such as traditional round columns, egg-shaped candles and even small round ball-shaped candles. These may spark a variety of craft ideas; standard candles can be decorated with names and shapes, egg-shaped candles could be transformed with patterned decorations and round candles can be turned into apples, oranges or similar items. To decorate candles, liquid wax pens are required. These feature fine tips for precision writing and decorations, and are filled with a liquid wax which can be left to dry once the design has been applied. Because liquid wax is used, the decoration will gradually burn down with the main candle. There are many craft ideas to choose from and different designs that can be created, so buying a variety of candle shapes and sizes is a good way to ensure that there will be enough for everyone.
Painting glass candle holders may be an ideal complementary craft project to painting candles, and will require only the holders themselves and a range of suitable glass pens or paints to decorate them with. Glass pens are available in a wide variety of colours and provide a neat and simple way to paint directly onto glass. The paint is released evenly and steadily, and the fine tips are often handy for creating detailed designs or for writing. It can sometimes be difficult to gauge how much paint is left in glass painting pens, so it may be a good idea to buy a few packs of pens in a variety of colours to ensure that you never run short.
When it comes to craft ideas based around candles, mouldable coloured wax is the material that lets children create their very own candles in any shape they like! The 10cm square slabs of wax can be moulded using just the heat from your own hand and a craft pack will also include wicks which are incorporated into the candle design. The wax slabs come in a variety of colours to appeal to all tastes and it is even possible to incorporate different colours of wax together to create unique candles. Adult supervision is required for this style of activity but the candles do have the advantage of being ready to take home as soon as the children have finished. Candle painting and glass painting activities will need time to dry before they can be collected. There are many craft ideas based around candle crafts and there are a wide variety of materials available to buy for schools and clubs who would like to try these activities out.
