My mother has never pumped her own gasoline and has never changed a flat tire on any of the vehicles that she has ever driven. On the other hand, almost as soon as I had learned how to change a flat tire, I later wound up changing several flat tires on my car in one year alone! I also pump my own gasoline. The entire process to change a tire, from start to finish, should take no more than five to ten minutes. This includes getting all of the equipment out, and it also includes the fact that you have an actual spare tire or replacement tire for the one that is damaged. I can distinctly recall a time when I was leaving for classes early one morning during the winter time when I was away at college. I came outside only to discover that one of my tires was completely flat. Because I knew how to change my own tire, I quickly had the tire changed and headed straight to the mechanic's shop all in less than a half hour. I didn't even miss a beat. Once I was at the mechanic's, he performed a test on the injured tire and found out that the source of the damage was all due to a nail. Within a matter of a few minutes, he patched up the tire and swapped it back out for the spare, which he lovingly returned to my vehicle.
