Working in the events is exciting and fulfilling but it isn't for the faint hearted. If you're shy or reserved you're better off looking elsewhere for a career. To work in the events industry you need to have a voice and not be afraid to use it. There will be liaising with managers and artists and other people in the industry. If you want a job where you will be getting plenty of adrenalin then this is the job for you. There are not many jobs that give you the chance to experience the buzz of a stage performance or live event and be a part of making it run smoothly.

Types of jobs in this industry include events producers, account managers, project manager, project coordinator, event consultant, AV manager, AV technician and many more. When it comes to putting a live event together there is so much to do, as well as the obvious jobs like audio visual roles there is catering jobs, design jobs and sales jobs. If you're a hard worker, very organised and committed to working in a fast pasted environment then this could be the job where you excel and really enjoy your job.

Getting into the events industry is like most others, the more experience you have on your CV the better. With experience and references you will stand a much better chance of getting a job than someone who has none. Newbie's should think about volunteering at local events. Offering yourself as a helper working for free is the best way to get experience. Some people might think you are a mug working for nothing but you're not actually working for nothing. You may be working for free and not getting paid, but what you are working for is experience and you can't put a price on experience.

So if you fancy working on TV shows, sporting events, live music events but have no experience contact the venue and ask about how you become a volunteer. Most of the people who work at these venues started out on temporary contracts or as volunteers and worked their way to the top.
