Gift Ideas for First Holy Communion

There is a time in a Catholic believer's life when they understand the significance of Catholic mass and taught the basic principles of the Catholic faith. This is called the First Holy Communion, which is the second Sacrament after baptism where they become more committed in the faith. As the fact that more people are becoming more dedicated to God, this makes a joyful event. Hence, gift-giving is very common. Here are some ideas of gifts you can give a person who is receiving their First Holy Communion, without making them feel silly receiving them.

Jewellery with indications of the faith can be a great gift as wearing it will constantly remind them of their faith. Simple, white gold cross pendantsare a safe gift for both boys and girls to wear proudly since they are not denoted by any particular gender preference. Apart fromwhite gold cross pendants, you can consider popular canvas, leather or handmade bracelets, or even rings with initials like W. W. J. D. (What Would Jesus Do), or P. U. S. H. (Pray Until Something Happens). Let them have God and some ego.

You could also give them starter rosaries as this allows them to practice saying their rosaries. You might want to consider giving both boys and girls one that is made out of cedar or natural wood, but get only those colourful or crystal beaded ones for girls. With that, you could give a prayer book according to their age, so they can understand their faith better easily. This also gives them a chance to attend prayer groups with much more presence in the session.

Apart from that, you could give them a children's Bible with pictures so they can learn from the parables and the teachings independently during their own time, while keeping their interest in. You could include a religious bookmark as well so they do not lose the page they were reading at. All these are to guide them to take initiative to learn more about the faith. You could give other books that may enable them to learn more about Christianity, such as a book about saints or life lessons. If heavy reading is not really their cup of tea, you can subscribe Christian magazines that are age-appropriate on their behalf instead. Magazines tend to have both biblical lessons and many fun activities or appealing pictures that will keep their eye glued. Look out in Christian shops for them.

Remember that while they are becoming more committed into the faith, children still need some guidance to keep their focus. Be creative and helpful with your gift, and do not expect them to understand everything grown-up.
