Give Your Car A Makeover This Spring

The winter months can be harsh to your car, leaving it looking a little sorry for itself once spring comes around again

. Most people carry out a spring clean in their house at this time of year, so why not take the opportunity to give your car a little T.L.C while you're at it?

A good place to start would be the interior of your car. Take a close look at your dashboard, upholstery and carpets - it's surprising the amount of dust and crumbs that can build up without you really noticing. Get a binbag and clear out any rubbish that may have accumulated, then get to work with the hoover. Wipe over any surfaces with a damp cloth, and give the inside of the windows a quick clean - you'll see a vast improvement in your car interior straight away, and it will be much more pleasant to sit and drive in.

You should then turn your attention to the exterior of your car. Being exposed to the elements over the long winter months means road grime and contaminants will have built up on your paintwork, leaving it looking dull and dirty.

The best way to tackle this is to use a hosepipe or even better, a pressure washer, to remove any loose dirt and grit. You should then set to work with a sponge and a bucket of warm water mixed with car shampoo. It's best to clean the top of the car first and work your way down, otherwise you'll just end up dripping murky water over the surfaces you've just cleaned.

Once you've finished with the sponge, give the car a final rinse with the hose and dry it off with a chamois leather - this way you should leave it streak-free and looking gleaming.

You'll be amazed at the difference a small amount of time and a bit of elbow grease can make to your vehicle. Once you've removed all the dirt and grime, the final thing you should do is take a good look at exterior car parts, such as your wiper blades. You'll need to check that they're still in decent condition after being subjected to the harsh conditions of winter. If you find that they need replacing, you should be able to pick car parts up from your local motoring store. Some may even offer a fitting service, saving you the hassle of doing it yourself.
