Give Your Look A Bohemian Twist by:Charlotte Bleasdale
Boho chic was first popularised a few years back by the likes of Sienna Miller and her folky fashion sense
. She inspired a million imitators at the time, and though she may have slipped out of the limelight a little, the boho look lives on. Seventies style influences have definitely made a comeback for summer. If full on hippy chic isn't for you, one of the easiest ways to give your outfit a distinctive boho twist is with women's shoes and fashion accessories. With their summer of love vibe they're perfect for long sunny days and summer festivals.
Here are some easy ways to get the look.
Florals
Nothing says seventies like a little flower power! From fabulous floral embellishments on bags, shoes or hair accessories to floral prints either big and bold or delicate and feminine, floral accents will soften any outfit and give an instantly more summery feel. Big flower hair bands are very big right now, owrn across the forehead rather than like an alice band. The great news is they look best with natural, tousled hair rather than super sleek locks, so it's a minimum effort look!
Platforms
Possibly the defining shoe style of the seventies, platform shoes will definitely give your outfit a hippy twist. Think natural and chunky: go for cork or wooden soles and a neutral brown or tan leather with straps, buckles or stud detailing rather than something dainty and glossy. This trend is not about looking too polished.
Wedges
Wedge heel shoes make a great alternative to platforms. They'll give you the authentic boho look and lots of lovely height but are also oh-so comfy to walk in. Strappy or woven styles will work well, or look out for rope or cork heels.
Boho bags
Forget your structured leather tote bag, for a seventies look go for something large and slouchy that you can sling over your shoulder; knitted or canvas bags will give that earth mother feel, especially tie dye ones if you can find one. Alternatively, try a long-strapped cross body bag or satchel in natural leather tones, particularly those with tassel or fringe detailing.
Big jewellery
The seventies were never about subtlety so you can really have some fun with big and bold jewellery. Long beaded necklaces, chunky bangles, statement rings, large hoop earrings the more the merrier! Even with a very contemporary wardrobe, if you stick to plain non-tailored basics and add the right accessories, a boho look is easy to achieve.
