Global Electronics Brands Tap Irish Firm For active Cables Suited To Tablets
An abundance of new portable appliances tablet PCs
, games, smartphones, and cameras now let users connect digitally to an HDTV to view high definition video in 1080p and surround sound. Yet in many cases the high-speed cable incorporating HDMI technology used to make the connection will be heavier, bulkier, and far less portable than the gear its used with. Top brand electronics companies, applying innovative technology from the Irish company RedMere, have changed that with the recent introduction of Active cables to the consumer electronics market for tablets, smartphones and any other device with HDMI-out.
Equipped with a tiny, self-powered RedMere booster module built into the connector, active cables boost the high definition signal so that the cable can be less than an eighth of an inch in diameter thinner than an iPod USB cable and still meet the demanding data speeds (10.2 Gb/s) required of high-definition connections. Cables using RedMeres technology are the thinnest, lightest, and most flexible cables with HDMI available to consumers. VIZIO, Samsung, PNY, Monster, RadioShack and BUFFALO SUPPLY INC are some of the major consumer electronics brands worldwide which now use active cable technology from RedMere to produce cables that are 70-80% thinner and lighter than conventional (passive) cables with HDMI technology of similar length.
Cables with RedMeres active technology are every bit as portable as the devices theyre made for, said Ruud van der Linden, RedMeres CEO recently. A 10-ft RedMere cable coils up to fit in your pocket or purse. No one does that with an ordinary HDMI cable. Van der Linden also said that cables with RedMeres active technology are fully compliant High Speed HDMI cables, which means they can be used with 3D and Ethernet capable HDTVs.
RedMeres active technology cables are available for devices using any of three of HDMI connector types, said van der Linden, including the D-size micro connectors found on the latest digital cameras and other portable gadgets. He said RedMeres technology facilitates the worlds only active cable for products with micro HDMI connections. Thin RedMere-powered cables are also being produced in lengths over 50 feet, making them well-suited to home theater, boardroom, and custom electronic installations.
RedMeres patented booster modules use a method of active equalization and one of the immediate benefits of this embedded silicon solution is that thinner, compact and lightweight cables are easily fabricated by CE brands in a volume production environment. The gauge or thickness of the cable is reduced and the loss of the high definition signal is offset by the adaptive equalizer in the booster module it effectively does the work that the volumes of copper did in a traditional or passive cable with HDMI technology. The embedded booster module compensates for the data loss which occurs when very high speed signals.
Top Brands Use RedMere Technology To Make Thin, Flexible HDMI Cable are transmitted over copper. The other benefit of using RedMeres technology in these cables is that the cables not only can become much lighter and portable but they can also be extended length-wise. The reduction of the amounts of copper and PVC used in the manufacture of the cables also means they are greener than traditional cables with HDMI technology. Thinner cables means vastly improved portability and with more and more portable devices being produced with HDMI out then the need for portable cables is obvious.
HDMI, which stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface, is the 21st-century standard for connecting HDTVs and other audio and video devices, such as Blu-ray players, that use digital content. This year alone, according to independent analysts, electronics makers worldwide will ship more than 600 million finished products equipped with HDMI connectors. Within the next three years, analysts say, that annual figure will more than double to 1.3 billion products. According to RedMere, the US market for HDMI cables will exceed $250 million this year alone and is expected to more than double in the next two years.
