It shouldnt be a total surprise that prefold cloth diapers have recently made a big come back.
Prefold cloth diapers had been used for years before other synthetic or disposable diapers came along and became the most popular choice. Now, however due to concerns about the environment and economics prefold cloth diapers are again becoming a very common choice.
Of course there are pros and cons to both types of diapers. Prefold cloth diapers are made from natural fibers which usually makes them much more comfortable for your baby. Since they are made from natural materials they will eventually decompose when they are finally thrown away. However, before they are thrown away they can be used over and over which makes them much more economical than disposable diapers.
Disposable diapers are convenient in that they are disposable. Use once, then throw away. That can be very convenient. Disposable diapers also may have more absorbency due to the absorbing chemical properties that are manufactured into these diapers. However, these diapers may take up to 500 years to decompose in a landfill which is obviously not good for the environment or our planet.
There are pros and cons to both disposables and cloth. Cloth diapers are made from natural fibers which are much more comfortable for your baby and better for the Earth. Sure they arent as convenient as a disposable where you just throw it away after every use but at least when you do toss it out you know it will eventually decompose. You will be doing your planet a huge favor. Not many people know that disposable diapers last around 500 years and are a major landfill crisis.
Some people choose to use both disposable and prefold cloth diapers. They use the cloth diapers on a routine basis but keep the disposable diapers for certain situations like traveling or visiting grandmas house. There is no right or wrong answer. You just have to choose what works best for you.
