If you take a look at large cities such as Los Angeles, you will see that the city skylines are already beset by smog and hazardous air that is not really safe to breathe. Asthma and other respiratory illnesses are on the rise in the U.S.. People all point at cars as one of the main causes of this reversable problem.It's already common knowledge that the pollution coming from cars also affects the ozone layer. Cars also emit CO2, which is one of the main greenhouse gases in the atmosphere causing global warming and climate change. Combine this with global oil politics and fuel price instability and you can see why people prefers alternative energy cars. Because of these factors, more and more people are switching to hybrid and electric cars.These cars works very much like any gasoline powered car. The only difference is that electric cars produce no harmful emissions at all. Also, you never have to buy gasoline ever again unless you mow the lawn. All you must do is plug the car in to an electricity outlet and the batteries will charge in no time at all. San Francisco and other Bay Area cities have parking garages with outlets for electric cars.Today, thanks to advances in technology, electric cars are even feasible. In the past, the cars were too heavy and the batteries were not efficient. Equipped with the latest battery technology along with lighter and stronger materials, electric cars have become a reality. The range is the determining factor, with electric cars today carrying a family over a hundred miles on a single charge. This is usually sufficient for commuting and short day trips.Even with electric cars finally hitting the commercial market, electric car technology is still in its infancy. Gasoline is still a cheaper and more viable choice for most people. Despite this, there are always early adaptors that will afford the green alternative energy choices. Eventually, we all hope cars are powered by the one truly renewable and unlimited alternative energy: solar power.Until then, there will be many solutions offered and electric cars are in the mix.
