God And Loneliness-the Missing Link

When people are struggling with loneliness, God is often left entirely out of the picture

. The numerous self-help guides and the overwhelming focus in getting things done by ourselves has resulted in generations of people turning to their own powers instead of God, and loneliness is only one of the fallouts of this self reliant behavior.

Not to say that there is anything wrong with relying on your own abilities, mind you. Some of the most significant accomplishments of the human race have been borne out of an intense drive and ambition to succeed, and good old-fashioned "stick-to-it-ivness. However, we all come to a point wherein our strengths and capabilities prove to be no much for the troubles that plague us. You can only go so far on your own steam before you need help. And for the vast majority of problems that can get the better of you, the only relief may come from God.

Loneliness is an emotional concern that is often dealt with via superficial means. Whenever we are lonely, the first thing that comes to mind is to seek comfort in the companionship of other people. There is certainly something to be said about this approach, and it can be quite effective at helping us deal with most minor cases of loneliness. However, these measures can often prove to be stop-gap at best, and we can quickly enter into a more serious and longer lasting cycle of depression if we don't turn to God. Loneliness is an amazingly powerful emotion, but it is still no match for the awe-inspiring power of God.

If you have been reliant on your own powers throughout your life, you might encounter a bit of hesitation on your part when you first try to turn to God. Loneliness has a tricky way of feeding off all our other emotions, including fear, insecurity, and depression. Since we all have been led to believe that the solution to these problems lies in external means of distraction, we so often neglect to consider the help that comes from God, and loneliness continue to become a major factor in our lives.

So how do you begin to rely on the awesome power of God as a solution to your loneliness? The first step is to surrender your will to God and acknowledge your inability to handle everything that comes your way. This will involve a significant change in your way of thinking, and a total trust and reliance that everything will come together by the grace of God. Loneliness can deceive you into thinking that there is no one out there who can be of help, but you should not underestimate God's power in helping you deal with the worse of your problems. Even if you do your best to solve your own problems, it is very likely that you will at some point have to turn to God. Loneliness can be a devastating occurrence in any person's life, so the sooner you turn to God, the sooner you will be able to find a solution.
