Going Green With Interior Design

Today the color green is in style and it is fun and easy to decorate with

. Green makes people aware of the need to conserve life on earth. It is a great way to decorate as well. Here are some things that you can do to go green.

For your wooden furniture or others constructed from natural materials, consider using antiques or used second-hand pieces. By doing this you will be saving some money, in the latter case, while also reducing the depletion of natural resources by not creating any more demand for products made using such materials. On the other hand, if you must buy your furniture new, avoid those made from toxic materials. Instead opt for pieces made form organic materials, wool batting, renewable woods and latex foam.

If you have hardwood floors, have them refurbished instead of placing synthetic floors above them. You could also go for bamboo floors, linoleum, cork, stones, reclaimed woods and recycled glass or metal tiles. Opt for carpet tiles instead of carpets, which do not require carpet padding as well. This is because carpets tend to accumulate mildew, dust and mites which are not good for human health.

Alternatively, for those undesirable spots on your floor, an area rug would really come in handy. Pick one that is made from sustainable, 100% natural fibers as these will be a good addition to your go-green campaign. You may even find area rugs made from recyclable and biodegradable materials if you look hard enough.

When decorating your walls you want to avoid using paints that contain a high content of VOC, volatile organic compounds. These paints release gas that contains toxic chemicals. Always check the paint labels before purchasing any paint. You can find eco-friendly paints at the local hardware store.

When it comes to buying bedding or bed linen you want to go with organic cotton. This type of cotton is a natural fiber so it is free from synthetic chemicals that can be dangerous. Make sure the bedding you choose is treated with a non-toxic water based dye. Don't choose bedding that is treated with formaldehyde. Mattresses should be made from latex rubber.

When it comes to making a bathroom eco-friendly there are a couple of things you can do. One is to purchase urinals that do not require water. You may also want to find a dual-flush toilet that conserves water.

When choosing your furniture you may want to choose vintage furniture. This will encourage re-using furniture instead of promoting new furniture to be made. You will also be creating a more eco-friendly environment. Look for furniture stores that sell eco-friendly furniture. They are safe for the environment and they look great.
