El Mar Menor has a tiny strip known as La Manga. You can find it on the Costa Calida in Spain, a region very popular with tourists. The small land portion received the name La Manga, which means sleeve because it really looks like one; you can barely see the sleeve on maps or on different satellite images of Spain, but there is something very special about the small portion of land that it attracts so many tourists. It is probably the small bay it forms, the bay that thoroughly distinguishes the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea.

El Mar Menor means The Small Sea and it definitely deserves its name. It is only 21 kilometers long and its widest parts are of only 300 meters, making it look more like a lake than like a sea; however, it is a great place for a Spanish holiday destination if you see its beauty. In addition to being very beautiful, El Mar Menor has a few more specific features which make it so attractive. When I am talking about these features I am referring to its healing qualities. When you taste its water, you will see that it is very salty; the salt, together with the Black Mud, forms a perfect therapeutic combination. La Manga and Mar Menor have another big advantage: the fact that the region enjoys 315 days of sun every year makes it very attractive to those who practice athletics. The water of El Mar Menor is also great for something else: all sorts of water sports. Tourists find in La Manga the very warm and welcoming inhabitants, as La Manga is not just a holiday resort, but also a small and coquette town where the locals have been struggling to keep the traditions alive. The Phoenicians were the ones who transformed it into a holiday resort by building summer homes in La Manga.

A resort for those who love cycling

People love to come into contact with the surrounding nature by cycling. Bicycles are everywhere in this resort and even guided tours are available for those who love to exercise and to admire the landscapes. Tourists can also practice tennis, horse riding or golf or they can use the childrens club in order to entertain their little ones. La Manga is a complete resort and it deserves a little bit of your attention.
