Goldfinches are dynamic birds known for their aerial acrobatics and high energy levels. Theyre much more interesting to watch than your average bird cage finch, but convincing these birds to perch in your home can be a little tricky. If youre looking to attract these beautiful creatures to your backyard then youll have to make a few modifications to your backyard. First youll need to plant tons of sunflowers. Goldfinches adore sunflower seeds and they will spend hours and hours pecking for these seeds in your yard. Thistle flowers, salvia flowers and zinnia flowers are also great ways to attract these birds. Make sure that youve got a feeder made especially for finches. Goldfinches prefer narrow feeders that are around 5 feet off of the ground with plenty of perches. Fill the feeder with thistle seeds and the Goldfinches will flock to your backyard. Goldfinches are very weary of predation, so they like to hide in dense shrubbery. If your backyard is bare then it may be time to make a few additions. Planting rose bushes will look and smell great and Goldfinches will feel comfortable hiding within them from common predators like cats. If you have pets that regularly hangout in your backyard, you may want to restrict their space. Goldfinches will stay away from areas that are populated with cats and dogs to avoid predation. It wont take long before these birds discover your backyard paradise.
