The High Point University women's golf team shot a combined 335 on Sunday at the C&F Bank Invitational in Williamsburg to finish the two-day event in 16th place out of 22 teams with a score of 673. And the Penn women's golf team finished third out of 20 teams at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday at the Blackheath Course at Ford's Colony Resort. The 36-hole event was hosted by William & Mary.
"Today was a really long day of golf. It is hard to wait on every hole. You get out of your routine because you walk get to your ball and then wait before you get to go into your routine. The team struggled today. We got into a few areas off the tee that we avoided on Saturday. We had difficulty hitting the greens and with our putting. Nothing was firing right today. We will continue to work and hopefully things will click."
Norris followed her 81 from Saturday with an 82 on Sunday, turning in the best round of the day for HPU both times out. Day one leader Yale shot a combined 310 on Sunday to win the team title with a two-day score of 606. The Bulldogs won by 10 strokes over runner-up St. John's who finished with a score of 616. Pennsylvania finished in third with a score of 625.
The Panthers next return to action on Monday, March 28 at the 2011 Highlander Invitational. The two-day event will be held in Draper, Va., at the Draper Valley Golf Club. Penn shot 310 as a team on Sunday and finished at 315-310--625. That put the Quakers behind only champion Yale (296-310--606) and second-place St. John's (308-308--616). Bucknell was fourth (319-312--631), while Penn State and Old Dominion tied for fifth.
The individual champion was Yale freshman Seo Hee Moon, who parlayed a first-round 66 into a two-round 142 and won the title by six strokes over a pair of St. John's women.
