In order to have a higher swing speed, you need to be able to turn back and through at a higher rate of speed, which requires core strength and flexibility. Combining the golf strength of your lower body, core and upper body is an approach that will give you results rapidly.


Start with simple rotational exercises that incorporate both strength and flexibility like the seated rotation with a club. In order to do this, sit upright with a club on your shoulders behind your neck. Grab each end with your hands. While facing forward and focusing straight ahead, rotate to the right and back to the left. You will feel tight and restricted at first. Maintain an erect posture with your eyes straight ahead. Do this slowly initially, and then build up the rate of speed as you go on. Rotate back and through ten times for three sets.

Another exercise is the lunge with a twist. This golf strength exercise combines the power in your lower body with the core rotational movement needed for maximum golf swing speed and distance. In order to do this, assume a standing position with your arms straight and hanging down in front of you, and hold your medicine ball or dumbbell. As you step forward with one leg, rotate your upper body to that same side, while holding the medicine ball or dumbbell chest high the whole time. Return to starting position and do the opposite leg. Repeat each side ten times for three sets.
