Good News For Accountants As They Are Now Expected To Receive Bigger Bonuses

Recent research carried out by the recruitment firm called Ambition indicates that

on average accountants can expect to receive 8.7% of their base salary as bonus this year. Ambition also carried out a survey on 500 businesses showing that finance professionals are also expected to receive an even better 10.8% of their salary as a Christmas bonus.

It is predicted that with the average salary for a qualified accountant standing at 42,000 pounds per year, the average bonus equates to be 4,536 pounds. This works out to be 880 pounds more than employees were expecting. The research shows that only two in every ten businesses expect not to offer any sort of performance related pay or salary increase over the next twelve months.

The surveys showed that 1 in every 10 businesses are expecting to pay bonuses to finance staff. Whereas eight in ten businesses expect to either pay either a bonus or increase in staff salaries in 2011. With only two in every ten businesses not offering any bonus or salary increase.

Managing Director of Ambition, Tim Gilbert, said "When times are tough businesses turn to the accountancy department to tighten the company belt and weed out areas of overspending. Accountants &

Umbrella Services are often the unsung heroes of recessions as they keep a keen eye on the bottom line and help steer companies out of trouble. It's encouraging to see finance staff getting the rewards they deserve and businesses recognising the effort and contribution that these departments make."

Gilbert continued; "There may be some disappointment from finance teams about the level of salaries next year but it's important to remember that many staff will have had their pay frozen over the last two years. It's understandable that staff now want to get their pay back in line but the fact that businesses will be paying higher bonuses than expected will go some way to appeasing any disappointment."
