Most automotive industry people suggest buying used vehicles because when buying a new vehicle, you're automatically hit with a depreciating value the minute it leaves the dealerships car lot.

Best example of this is when looking at a Lexus RX suv, this suv would be around $40,000 dollars new. If you were to pick one up used, say 6 to 7 years old, you would pay anywhere from $12,000 to $15,000 dollars, this is a very safe and reliable vehicle. The Lexus is a great vehicle and equipped with more than some of the new vehicles that are on the market today. I would suggest going to ConsumerReports.org's website and look at the report, they have data on vehicles from 1998 to 2007.
