To avoid having to edit or retake your video, invest in a wireless lavaliere microphone for your collar. They dont cost much and since youll probably be using it frequently, wont be an investment youll regret.
Use a dark or medium background so that the camera doesnt focus on the background instead of you. White walls and bright colors can create different camera effects, often shadowing your face, making it difficult for your viewers to see you clearly.
It is also important to keep yourself well lit. Of course, avoid having any bright lights, such as a window or lamp, behind you will leave you in the shadows, hiding you from view. If youre trying to be anonymous it might be a good idea, but for the purpose of business, we want to see who were listening to. Avoid strong overhead lighting as well, since it can often leave the picture dark or shadow your image and eyes (which are often important for any video since they can say just as much as your words). Instead, station a table lamp or decent light source from behind the camera and keep it pointed at your face. It will help to keep you illuminated and ensure that youre the center of attention. Dont put it too close though, or youll blind yourself.
Frame yourself accordingly. Your video is most likely going to be about you speaking or demonstrating products or features, so keep your face the focal point in the camera so that people can see your expressions and emphasis clearly. Dont leave too much headroom or empty space to the sides that would waste the screen shot. Keep things up close and personal and have a conversation with your audience.
Every good story has an ending
You cant forget the ending. Each video you create is basically a short story, even if its all information based, so end it with a call to action. For example, if your video is about how businesses should use video to promote websites, end it with: We hope our video has been helpful in assisting you on your business ventures, so put your new skills to work for you by creating a quality video. And dont leave your audience hanging, even if the video is a continuous series. Let them know that theres more to come regarding the series and thank them for their time.
