With these home water treatment systems, dangerous contaminants are bound the the carbon filters chemically and/or physically, and the important, healthy minerals are left in the water, just as we need them to be. High quality systems might also use twin or dual filtration and ion exchange to remove 99% of contaminants. An added bonus is that these are almost always much cheaper than the reverse osmosis systems are.

Some of them are to be used in the shower to absorb more toxins, because many contaminants get on the skin in the bath or shower and become absorbed by the skin into our bodies.
