Good vs evil, television as display easel art: The Characters of The Wire Pt. 1

It is sort of hard to give a summary of the cast of The Wire since the lineup often changed to focus on different groups of people in and around Baltimore, MA, from the law enforcement officials to the man and women in politics to the drug dealers on the street and to the dock workers and newspaper men and women. I will try to summarize some of the key cast members in the epic show that makes television into art worthy of a display easel. Jimmy McNulty The very Irish American detective in the Baltimore Police Department is hard to categorize. On the one hand is uses some underhanded tactics with his police department in his crusade to take down the drug leaders in Baltimore but he is also a very good police officer, smart, tactical and clever. He is an alcohol and has trouble remaining in a faithful relationship for very long. His life is his work and when he begins his assignment on the Avon Barksdale case there is little that can stop him from going head first into the battlefield, taking down anyone and ruining any positive friendships he may have had to get the bad guys. In the end, it is hard to say whether Jimmy succeeded or not, much like in life there are very rare times when things turn out so black or white. Avon Barksdale Avon is the top drug dealer and boss of Baltimores west side, running a large and complicated crew of men in his Barksdale Organization. Barkdale is the autonomous leader of the organization with Stringer Bell his second in command, often the brains of the duo. Avon is often obsessively concerned with how his image is portrayed on the streets and is quick to anger and retaliation whereas Stringer Bell is more slow and methodical. Avon eventually gets caught in the first season and sentenced to seven years in jail but he is released in much less by the third season. About the Author:
