"Caffeine" is Google's new indexing system and Google has officially announced that it is live. What is it? Google Caffeine is the new method that Google now uses to index all web pages. Why? Caffeine can index new web pages faster than the old system.
"Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it's the largest collection of web content we've offered. Whether it's a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before."
What's the Difference?
The old system updated the search index in batches.
"Our old index had several layers, some of which were refreshed at a faster rate than others; the main layer would update every couple of weeks.
To refresh a layer of the old index, we would analyze the entire web, which meant there was a significant delay between when we found a page and made it available to you."
This means the search index is updated continually. Therefore, new pages will show up in the Google search results quicker for relevant searches.
Is this going to affect my rankings?
The change to Google Caffeine is NOT going to affect your search engine rankings at all. This is not a ranking algorithm update and does not affect the way Google ranks web pages. The only thing this means for your site is that new pages will show up much faster in results with Caffeine.
