Google Freshness Update What It Means For Your Website
Google is a constantly evolving search engine
Google is a constantly evolving search engine. Always looking to update and amend their algorithm and add new features. They have now recently released a new update entitled Google Freshness. So what do this algorithm shift mean for you? What effect will this have on websites?
It has been reported that this new shift has affected up to thirty five percent of all Google searches. This can have a major impact on businesses who heavily rely on the web for their sales. Knowing that Google holds the majority share in the search industry, it's vital to remain on top of these changes and to adjust your website to conform with these new amendments.
As it states in the name, the Google Freshness update is exactly that. Freshness being the key indicator. As all SEO's know that text is king, this really is highlighting that fact even further and backing up this theory. When somebody conducts a search Google is now giving priority to the freshest content available relating to that search term. Therefore, where previously you would search for an event using the date of the next forthcoming or the latest available, Google will now rank the newest info for that item ahead of anything else, so there is no longer the need to add the date within the search term.
This major change is a follow up from last year's Caffeine Update, which centred around fresh content. This change is focussing on all other forms of up to date content and the back end of things too.
The Caffeine Update was all about the website and the new content, pages and products or services being made available and updated, thus these pages, along with other SEO factors
making it more relevant and visible in the SERPS.
The new Freshness Update is now including other available factors of keeping things fresh such as blogs, forums etc. It is also rumoured that social media sites connected with individual websites will also show in the SERPS and gain more weight than previously expected.
So the best way to cope with this new movement is to ensure your website is up to date with all the basic SEO fundamentals and to accommodate this new shift by ensuring that your sitemap file is up to date, any forum or blog posts are kept fresh and dated.
If you have an e-commerce website with many products listed then this may have a major impact on your websites rankings. You will have to ensure your website still ranks as before, if not then you'll need to get in touch with your SEO consultant and get this amended as soon as possible before your website begins to disappear throughout Google.
