We have always promoted white hat SEO and proper content and link building while others with self promoting black hat methods would offer quick fixes, and less than honorable methods. Google's Panda algorithm looks at your site and the if the links to it are relevant.

Ways to make Panda see you in a better light

There are ways to improve rank with Google's Panda algorithm or to remove the Panda slap.

First: track the links to your site, and the low quality links and request that those links be removed from linking to you. This is in essence removing the negative association that the Panda update looks for.

Second: continue with your content creation, if you have a blog attached to your website create valuable content that gives the viewers real and important information, the days of fluff are over. Many businesses do not have a blog attached to their website or are not adding new fresh content for the search engines to find and deem relevant.

Third: focus on getting higher quality back links from reputable, relevant sites this will improve your odds of not being thrown into the void of Panda. Include building your citations with directories utilizing keywords that are relevant to your site or business.

Fourth: if your site has more ads than content you will be looked upon harshly balance your site for better ranking.

Fifth: When syndicating your content do it right, meaning do not create mass blogs or duplicate content throughout the web. The scrapers will find it and the Panda will penalize these actions.

Google admits that some sites have been hit by Panda that should not,

"According to our metrics, this update improves overall search quality. However, we are interested in hearing feedback from site owners and the community as we continue to refine our algorithms. If you know of a high quality site that has been negatively affected by this change, please bring it to our attention in this thread. Note that as this is an algorithmic change we are unable to make manual exceptions, but in cases of high quality content we can pass the examples along to the engineers who will look at them as they work on future iterations and improvements to the algorithm. So even if you don't see us responding, know that we're doing a lot of listening."
