When it comes to search engine results or SERPS as they are often called, showing up on the first page is the Holy Grail for website owners. Better yet, the top 3 to 4 listings will most assuredly bring you more traffic to your site. Google leads the way when it comes to search engines and most of us in Internet marketing strive to get our pages in the top results.
Think of the search engines as researchers. It's their job to go out and find just what you need and the more specific the better. You enter the topic you want them to research and they go out and dig around all over and come back to you with a few different options. And they rate those options based on how relevant they are to the keywords you entered.
You can imagine as a business owner, you would want Google, Yahoo or Bing to present your product or service first since this might give you an advantage over your competitor. And as long as you advertised your site properly, the customer or searcher would see exactly what they wanted on your site and make a purchase.
Google is king of the search engines and you as a business owner should want to see your web page show up in the top 3 to 4 results because more potential customers will see your page. The more customers that see your page, the better your chances of getting them to click the link that takes them to your site.
What Google does affects all of us in Internet marketing and that's why there is always so much buzz around the latest enhancement in their search engine. Understanding these upgrades will allow us to deliver the best possible results on our web pages that are relevant to the keywords entered.
The latest of these upgrades have had to do with Instant Results and Previews. There has been much written about the enhancements and experts much smarter than I have come out on both the positive and negative side of the latest edition of Google. I say don't get mad, get going and keep your site optimized. Maybe I'm nave but I believe they are just trying to provide customers with a better searching experience.
