Gps: To Track Or Not To Track?
In recent years, GPS shipment tracking has revolutionized the shipping industry
. One of the first questions that people tend to ask when evaluating a Seattle Delivery Service is whether they offer GPS tracking on their shipments. Typically, this information will be readily available on the delivery service's website. In other instances, however, you will need to call customer service to verify this.
Many customers pay for GPS tracking unnecessarily, simply for the novelty factor of seeing exactly where their shipment is in real time. It might be fun to see exactly where on Earth your new gadget is, and that may make the added expense worth it to you. However, if you are concerned about cost, traditional "scan-based" tracking is often just as useful, and tends to be free. All Seattle Delivery Services are required to itemize miscellaneous surcharges, so if you are concerned about the cost, and you are smart enough to ask to see the breakdown, you should be able to determine whether or not there is a charge for this feature before you ship.
Some delivery services will not even charge for this feature. Some of the more savvy companies simply see it as an "added-value" feature that they can offer to differentiate themselves from their competition. If a company does charge for the service, it's usually because they are of the opinion that it is not a large enough differentiator to make a difference, but that those who want it will want it badly enough to pay extra for it. But the question remains: Do you really need GPS tracking for your shipment?
It really depends on the value of knowing exactly where the package is, minute by minute, versus the cost of adding the service. If the Seattle Delivery Service that you are looking at offers the service for free, then it's a moot point, and you may not even have a choice in the matter. If, however, GPS tracking is an added charge, then several factors come into play. First, are you sending one package, or many? If it's a one-off shipment of the latest gizmo that your teenager talked you into ordering, then it might be worth it for the novelty factor of being able to log on with your kid and see that the item is exactly half-way over the Atlantic Ocean right this moment. Otherwise, you have to ask how much added-value you are really getting.
