Graduation Party Guest List and Invitations

Graduation Party Guest List and Invitations

If you don't have an address list of some kind, start one by listing all the members of your family, your friends, and other friends from sports, clubs, church, and other organizations. Look for additional names in any address books and/or address lists your extended family has. Check with your teen to make sure you invite all the important people in their life. Then research addresses online or in telephone books. Keep your address list handy and add to it as you think of names and find addresses throughout the planning months.

Here are some graduation party guest list suggestions:

Family members

Extended family members

Friends of your family

Friends of your teen

Parents of close friends of your teen

Favorite school teachers

Coaches and other mentors

Once you have a complete guest list, you are ready to prepare the invitations. You can either announce the child's graduation to guests with an announcement or invite guests to the graduation ceremony with an invitation. Most schools limit attendance at the ceremony, especially if it has to be held indoors because of rain. In addition, enclose an invitation to the graduation open house to all guests on your list.

There are numerous options for announcements and invitations. Professional announcements can usually be purchased through your child's school. The companies that provide these formal announcements also sell open house invitations. You can also purchase graduation open house invitations from your local party supply store. If you choose not to spend the money, you can make handmade cards or invite people electronically. You can also print a card from your computer onto tagboard--4 invitations per 8-1/2x11" sheet.

An option that I prefer is a professional service called "Send Out Cards." You can upload your list of addresses, upload a graduation picture of your child, and then this company will send out cards that look like personal, handwritten invitations, customized with your message. Here are some graduation party invitation suggestions:

Ask your teen to invite their close friends using Facebook or MySpace

Create a small flyer for your graduate to pass out to friends

Email to close friends and co-workers

Put an announcement in a church program/bulletin

Put an invitation on the high school bulletin board for smaller schools

I would suggest you mail the announcements/invitations about three weeks before graduation or before the graduation open house, whichever is first.
