Grammy Foundation Offers Music Camp
Many award-winning bodies have programs that help the younger generation develop their talent and skills
. One of which is the Grammy Award with their GRAMMY in the Schools. The camps are like little audio engineering schools that cater to students and music programs in the high schools of the United States. There are three programs under the GRAMMY in the Schools. These would be the GRAMMY Camp Jazz Session, the GRAMMY Camp, and the GRAMMY Signature Schools, which are supported by Converse and Best Buy. These programs bring together Grammy Award winning and nominated artist to talk about music and music production to the campers.
The program, which is celebrating its 8th year next year, is great for students who are considering going to audio engineering schools or performing arts schools after graduating high school. GRAMMY Foundation and The Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow say that the camp gives students a taste of what to expect if they had a job in the recording and music industry. The program also provides needed financial help to the students so they can support their music and audio production programs. In a way, the GRAMMY in the Schools helps promote the new generation of songwriters, music makers, and performers by cultivating their passion in music, he added.
Attending the GRAMMY Camp gives the students an interactive music experience over the summer. It lets the students choose seven different fields of music production: Audio Engineering, Concert Electronic Music Making, Production/Promotion, Management and Marketing, Songwriting, Music Journalism and Workshops for Drums, Bass, Keyboard, Guitar, Vocal, and String and Wind instruments. Facilitators and teachers are industry professionals, classes are held in a creative environment, and the students get to use the best tools and equipment in the studio and laboratories much like the ones in the best audio engineering schools in the country.
Schools and students that are interested in joining the 2012 camps can apply at their website, www.grammyintheschools.com. Students who sign up before Oct. 22 will get 10% tuition discount if selected to join. The final deadline for the applications is on March 31, 2012. Students who need financial aid can apply for it. About 70% of the application for financial support get it. The program is one way for the foundation to give back to the public and cultivate the interest in music for younger generations. Many of the camps alumni have achieved a career in the music scene.
