MERIGO, who needs 16 to come out to get a run in the John Smith's Grand National, could instead bid to become the first back-to-back winner of the Coral Scottish Grand National since Androma in 1985.

Earlier this month, Merigo's trainer Andrew Parker stated the Grand National, for which his chaser is as big as 33-1, was the preference, with the Ayr marathon "plan B".

A total of 80 horses made up the early entries for the Scottish National at Ayr on April 16, including 2008 winner Iris De Balme, as well as a whole host of horses with Aintree entries.

A total of 36 were declared for the Grade 2 Isle of Skye Blended Whisky Scottish Champion Hurdle with last year's runaway winner Overturn among the entries.

Celestial Halo and Cue Card were surprise names in the list, while Mille Chief, Recession Proof and Via Galilei were other notable entries.

There was also an entry for 2007 Champion Hurdle hero Sublimity.
