Great Design On The Newhtc One X And The Sony Xperia S
Two major mobile phone manufacturers have released high specification premium smartphones
hoping that they will compete with best selling models such as the Galaxy S2 from Samsung and the iPhone 4S. The new HTC One X and Sony Xperia S are both superb devices that combine striking looks with some excellent specification. We put these two handsets head to head to see how they compare in terms of design and screen technology.
There is no doubt that both of these handsets are great looking devices although they do differ quite drastically in terms of design. The HTC One X is the more traditional looking handset of the two but thanks to its very slim profile it still looks very modern. The device measures just 8.9mm in depth which makes it one of the slimmest handsets currently available. This is arguably the most stylish phone that HTC have ever launched with contoured edges which work very well with the curved design of the handset. High quality plastics are used in the construction of the chassis which feels and looks superb. The device measures 134.4 x 69.8 x 8.9mm and weighs just 130 grammes which is particularly impressive for a device which boasts a 4.7 inch display. The Sony Xperia S also catches the eye with its modern looks although this handset is much more angular than the curvy One X. The model still maintains some elements that could be found on some of Sony's earlier models such as the Xperia Arc and the slightly curved screen is a great example of this. Another nice element of this model is the transparent band that is situated beneath the screen of the phone. Although this serves no practical purpose it does help the model to stand out from many of its more generic rivals. The Xperia S measures 128 x 64 x 10.6mm and weighs slightly more than the One X at 144 grammes.
The HTC One X uses the larger screen of these two models which measures 4.7 inches. This will make the handset popular with users who want to use the device for mobile gaming or video playback. This screen is capable of displaying a high quality resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which equates to an impressive pixel density of 312PPI. The screen uses the very latest Super IPS LCD2 technology which helps it to create realistic colours and offer a great natural brightness. The Sony Xperia S uses a smaller 4.3 inch screen that is capable of displaying the same resolution as the HTC handset. This has a positive effect on the pixel density of this device and a massive 342 pixels can be displayed per inch. This figure puts the Sony ahead of every other current handset in this area. The display panel on this model uses LCD technology with LED backlighting and this produces outstanding image quality with superb viewing angles.
The HTC One X and the Sony Xperia S are two of the best handsets that we have seen launched in 2012. Both of these devices look superb with the HTC offering a more curved appearance and the Sony using a more angular chassis. Screen quality is also high on both models but the excellent Sony eclipses its rival in this department thanks to the fantastic pixel density that can be displayed.
