Great Golfmission

Before the Golfmission, if someone told you they could shave shots off your handicap without tampering with the technical side of your game, would you believe it? Maybe not. However, Golfmission can help you realize it. They insist you will see rapid improvement in your game for what would appear remarkably little effort and even less money. You see instead of messing with mechanics or fiddling with what's in your bag, GolfMission is about focusing what's between your ears. The product is a task-driven game, played on the course alongside your usual Stableford or stroke-play format and is aimed at golfers of all levels. At the start of a round, each player in the group receives a GolfMission card with that card detailing challenges that must be completed on predetermined holes during the round. Depending on individual handicaps, players must complete between three and six of the six designated missions to succeed. The idea is that GolfMission makes practice and social rounds more like competition golf so players are more comfortable with the feelings that come with pressure.
Share: The missions presented on these cards can range from the taxing (parring any five holes in a row, ensuring there are nine fours or better on your card) to the slightly less-ambitious (avoiding sand and water on set holes, managing not to lose your ball over the closing three holes). Helping the Canadian-born Brit do so is Jamie Edwards, a leading sports mental coach who is now Chapman's GolfMission partner. Jamie has worked with some of the foremost names in golf including Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell, and just so happened to be in this writer's fourball at the GolfMission launch day at Austin Lodge Golf Club in Kent. Now I'm still not sure whether it was a cunning marketing strategy, but Jamie instantly did his bit to try and highlight the benefits of the game by unleashing a wayward drive from the first tee that would result in a lost ball. Every club golfer knows that kind of start to a round can provide a blight that is still rankling some three or four holes later, but that's where GolfMission comes in. For rather than lingering on his drive, Jamie knuckled down, focused on the task in hand and went on to produce a cracking two-putt from the back of the first green to keep himself on course to achieve one of his missions. Indeed, Jamie turned out to be a walking advertisement for the product as he recovered from a sticky start to put on an inspired back-nine showing, completing his fifth and final mission at the 16th green with a two-putt par after a superb tee-shot had found the middle of the green at the 200-yard par-three. But another example of what it can do arrived on the 18th green as one of our other companions stood over a 10-footer for par. It should be mentioned this gnarled old hack had taken some persuading of the whole concept earlier in the day, in fact the words mumbo and jumbo had passed his lips. But with his required fifth and final mission on the line, his previously cold putter ran hot and the clutch putt was sunk; "Maybe there's something in this GofMission after all!" Maybe there is, maybe there isn't... but at just ?10 to find out it must be worth a try.
