Great Pinball Playing Tips
Since the 1930's, millions of people around the world have enjoyed playing pinball
, and the game continues to be popular today. Many people are getting away from the digital age and returning to the games of their youths, which include a number of popular pinball machines such as Gorgar and Flash. For those of you who would like to try your hand at this age-old, fun and exciting game, but have never played (where in the heck have you been, anyway), we have a few tips and tricks that will turn you into a "Pinball Wizard" in no time at all! This two-part article will show you such techniques as how to increase ball speed, setting up shots, passing the ball and aiming the ball.
Of course, when you are trying to master the art of playing pinball, you need to practice, practice, and practice some more. Familiarize yourself with your favourite machine, and learn how to predict where the ball is going to travel. You need to get a feel for the game, then, you will be able to move on to more advanced techniques.
Below are some more tips and techniques for improving your pinball game:
Increase Ball Speed - When you increase the speed that your ball travels, you will be able to score more points. There are two ways to increase your ball speed: nudge the table when your ball hits one of the pins or bumpers; and make sure that when you hit the ball with your flippers, that you hit at the exact moment that the ball touches the resting flipper.
Nudging - This is something that you shouldn't do often or too hard, to avoid the risk of "tilting". But, if you nudge the table gently, you can make your ball move farther and faster, and depending on which side of the machine you nudge, you can also control the direction of the ball.
Setting Up A Shot - You can do this by "catching" the ball, and releasing it at your leisure. There are a few techniques for catching a ball, including:
- Easy Catch: Raising flippers to keep the ball from either entering an inlane, or to send it into an inlane and hold it there to keep the losing the ball.
- Drop Catch: Hold your flipper up until the ball connects with it, and let go right away. This technique is a bit more difficult, but with a bit of practice, you can easily master it.
- Live Catch: By raising the flipper so that it meets your rolling ball at the same moment that the flipper is raised to its fullest height, the ball will roll down to the pivot point of the flipper.
These are just a few of the techniques you can use to improve your pinball game scores. Below you will learn about aiming and passing the ball, two more techniques that will help you master the game of pinball. Impress your friends, and even join in on one of the many pinball competitions that are held each year around the world with your newfound skills.
Playing pinball is extremely fun, and a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon or evening, wither by yourself, or with a group of friends (pinball parties are loads of fun). But, do you know all of the techniques you can use to improve your game, and make you the pinball player everyone wants to watch in action at the arcade? There are all kinds of techniques you can easily learn that will make your game even more fun and exciting, for yourself, and everyone around you watching you play.
We have already discussed such pinball playing techniques as increasing ball speed, nudging and setting up shots. Now you will learn about more techniques that will improve your skills on any pinball machine, including passing the ball, aiming the ball and saving the ball.
Aiming Your Ball - The best way to set up a pinball shot is to have it right where you want it to begin with. The easiest way to do this is to catch the ball, so that you will be able to aim it in whichever direction you want it to go. It's a simple matter of physics. The ball will go in different directions, depending on the location on the flipper the ball is hit from. Once you have practiced enough to see where the ball goes when it from different angles, you will be able to easily use this technique. Try catching the ball several times in practice games, and hitting it from different spots on the flipper to see where it goes. This is a terrific way of controlling your game play.
Saving Your Ball - Everyone who has ever played pinball knows how frustrating it is to lose a ball. There are a couple of techniques that you can use to save your ball: the double flip and the slap shot.
Double Flip: If you see that your ball is going to go between the flippers, this technique may help keep your ball in play. Press the flipper nearest the ball, and then press the other flipper right away. Release flippers immediately.
Slap Shot: This maneuver may also help you keep your ball in play. Nudge the machine on the side that the ball is closest to, pressing the flipper on that side at the same time.
Passing Your Ball - This is the last pinball-playing technique we are going to discuss. There are two ways that you can pass the ball from one flipper to another in order to direct the ball to where you want it to go: the bounce pass and the hold pass.
Bounce Pass: This is pretty simple. If you see that your ball is rolling to the flipper you don't want to use, just let it hit. The ball will bounce from the flipper you don't want to use to the one you do want to use. If the ball is moving to slow to perform this technique, give the machine a little nudge to speed things up.
Hold Pass: This technique works best on pinball machines with longer flippers. As in the above scenario, your ball is heading toward the flipper you do not want to use. But, instead of being passive, move that flipper to the up position before the ball gets to it. The ball will jump to the flipper you want to use.
Now that you are armed with these pinball-playing techniques, you can practice until you have mastered all of them, and you will be ready to take your place as the next "Pinball Wizard".
