Great Plains Dos Support: Gpa 9.5, 9.2 And Earlier Versions

. I am aware that some of you may still be on Great Plains Accounting and Microsoft Great Plains for DOS, Windows or Mac. This is fine, you are hosting your transactions and master records in Btrieve database (or if somebody moved you to modern platform, then you are probably on Pervasive SQL 2000, the successor of Btrieve)

If you like we can upgrade your GPA all the way through Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 (current version as we are writing these lines in January 2011). But, the reason why you are still deploying GPA for DOS might be business shrink or short of software upgrade budget. Great Plains Accounting will do the job for you in the foreseeable future, we recommend you at least to move it to Windows XP 32 bit workstation or on Windows 2003 server (32 bit platform is required, as Pervasive SQL 2000 is not compatible with 64 bits)

Typical GPA support issues and their resolutions. The most popular in our opinion are the cases, when your legacy computer hard drive is too old and becomes corrupt due to the above fact. The second popular one is when you got GPA batch posting crash (typically due to the Btrieve resource allocation). The third in popularity is Year 2000 cutoff issue, where you are specifying how many years since the year 2000 you would like to keep GPA in production (default is 10 years, so if you are in 2011, you should get strange dates, moving you back to 1911)

Is Macintosh version supportable? In fact it is. Mac was deploying GPA on Btrieve platform and if you copy these files (C:GPSGPData folder) to Windows computer, you can open them via ODBC connection (DDF files are required, but they could be produced, if you have original GPA diskettes, please read GPA ODBC PDF help file for additional instruction)
