Great Race At Great Wall
BEIJING Real Sports was very honored to have been part of the lean media team to
Beijing to witness the Finals of the Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011 at the foot of the Great Wall of China last week!
The race featured carts designed and built by students from universities and technical institutes of five Asian countries with engines powered by Bosch lithium-ion cordless tools.
Ten finalist teams with winners of qualifying races in China, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand earlier competed for the final race title. Team Maejo from Thailand ultimately prevailed, finishing the final race in 143 to become the 2011 Asian Champion. Team Endeavour from Beijing Institute of Technology, took the 1st runner-up honors, 14 seconds behind.
In the King of Power contest, a 100-m race showcasing the carts acceleration performance, the title went to Maejo from Thailand, which got off to an explosive start and finished in 8.956 seconds.
The Best Design award, selected by Bosch Power Tools Asia Pacific management, went to Siklab from Philippines, while the Most Popular award, based on online votes from Zeal fans, went to Zeal from Tongji University.
Just having the opportunity to represent the country in China was already an honor for us. The experience we had in Beijing will be unforgettable especially when it comes to the accommodation and treatment they gave us. We didnt expect to win the best design award because the designs of the other competitors are excellent, but we had a great feeling that we have a great chance of winning it, said Team Siklab leader Matt Mamangun.
In 2010, Bosch brought its exciting event -- the Bosch Power Tools Cordless Race from Europe to China. This race required students to use four Bosch Lithium-ion cordless impact drill/drivers as the vehicles engine. All other parts, such as steering, transmission, braking system and even the racing carts body shape, are entirely designed and built independently by the students themselves. Following the overwhelming success of the Bosch Power Tools Cordless Race held in Shanghai last year, the competition grew to a pan-Asian event in 2011, involving over one hundred universities from five countries. From May to July, qualifying races were held in the Philippines, China, Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia.
Dr. Werner Benade, senior vice president of Bosch Power Tools Asia Pacific, stated that the students are one of the most innovative and enthusiastic innovators in society, and that Bosch Power Tools is committed to encourage innovative thinking and practice especially among them.
Bosch Power Tools has been committed to encouraging innovation and developing local talent, and hopes this competition can provide a unique platform for the youths in Asia to innovate and interact. We hope this competition can provide a unique platform for Asian youth to put their creative thinking into practice, he said.
It feels absolutely incredible to speed around the Great Wall. Today is one of the best days Ive ever had! said the team members of Maejo, winner of King of Power award.

My good friend Willy Tee Ten is again staging his now famous 10-10-10 tournament this year, scheduled for Oct. 10 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club!
Last years event was a blast, with so many innovations added to the game to make it more enjoyable! And it was all for a good cause, as the proceeds went to Bantay Kalikasan, as will the funds this year.
Unfortunately, I had work in India during that time last year, that is why I am really looking forward to Oct. 10!
More than a 100 raffle prizes will be given away, more than 10 hole-in-one prizes are at stake so it should prove to be very entertaining and exciting!
Registration is still open until Oct. 4 so please get in touch with Cel Carbonel at 0920-9555222 and Mae Pacatang at 0920-9557999.
