Green economy includes green energy generation, based on renewable energy to substitute for fossil fuels and energy conservation for efficient energy use. The green economy is considered being able to both create green jobs, ensure real, sustainable economic growth, and prevent environmental pollution, global warming, resource depletion, and environmental degradation.
The United Nations has started the so-called Green Economy Initiative. The Green Economy Initiative (GEI) is designed to assist governments in greening their economies by reshaping and refocusing policies, investments and spending towards a range of sectors, such as clean technologies, renewable energies, water services, green transportation, waste management, green buildings and sustainable agriculture and forests.
Greening the economy refers to the process of reconfiguring businesses and infrastructure to deliver better returns on natural, human and economic capital investments, while at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions, extracting and using less natural resources, creating less waste and reducing social disparities.
Quite often Green Economy is associated with high technology inventions, such as wind turbines, solar panels, and wave energy. These technologies are, to be sure, important factors in the future combating of climate changes. However, simpler products may also contribute to help the environment and prevent climate changes. One very simple and relatively low technological product that can have a profound impact on environmental protection is non woven bags.
Non woven bags are not produced of ecological materials, but they are never the less advantageous for the environment, for the very simple reason that they last much longer than traditional plastic bags. This means that by using non woven bags we may avoid billions of plastic bags ending up in nature and in the oceans of the world, something that is already a huge problem.
Even with something as simple as replacing plastic bags with non woven bags, political action is needed. In China, for example, the government has forbidden stores to hand out free plastic bags, thus making it attractive for customers to invest in more lasting solutions. This is reflected in the growing number of China manufacturers producing non woven bags.
Even so, only a very small percentage of bags being produced and bought world wide are made from non woven material. This however, also means that there is a huge potential in regards to domestic as well as global trade when it comes to non woven bags. The China suppliers have already started; one can only hope that the rest of the world will follow soon.
