Grilled Goodness: A Hamburger Done Right

Finding the best way to cook a hamburger doesn't come easy

. It takes quite a bit of care and planning. It's not just a simple matter of slapping the patties on the grill and flipping them over. The proper handling of the meat determines how well the burger will cook.

The first thing to consider is that the hamburger meat should not be handled for too long to avoid one's body heat from transferring into the frozen chunk of meat, causing it to melt and may lead to overheating during the cooking process. One may choose the type of meat they want to use for their burger according to their own personal tastes.

And of course, good taste is important in formulating the best way to cook a hamburger. Experimenting with adding special ingredients, spices and fillings to the mix will enhance the burger's flavor. But always remember that when applying additional ingredients, one should do so with the use of a spatula.

There are actually a number of ways to cook a hamburger, from boiling, to broiling, to grilling. If one chooses the third option, remember that the grill must be allowed to turn very hot prior to cooking. Also, the burger should not be flipped until the moment that its juices are naturally released.


Between the preparation and the actual mode of cooking, the best way to cook a hamburger is as good as its recipe. For a truly delectable, juicy and mouth-watering burger, we recommend the following ingredients: 1 & 1/2 pounds of ground chuck/round beef, 3 tablespoons of fine dry bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons of tomato juice, sliced tomatoes (optional), pickles and onions, 2 tablespoons of grated onion, 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder (optional), lettuce, salt and pepper, and additional condiments as necessary.

The first step is to let the heat of the grill rise as stated earlier. Then, the following ingredients are mixed together; namely the beef, the bread crumbs, the tomato juice, the grated onion, the garlic powder and the Worcestershire sauce. The resulting mixture is shaped into patties numbering about 4 or 5. Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of the hamburger patties for seasoning. They are then placed on the grill to cook on both sides for about 8 minutes. Once properly grilled, the burgers are ready to serve on toasted buns, with the sliced vegetables and appropriate condiments added on for extra flavor.

There are proper methods of preparing and cooking burgers, and there are actually a number of variations that can be made to give the typical burger recipe that special added zest. Through it all, the best way to cook a hamburger is ultimately determined by how well it satisfies one's appetite for it.
