Grow Marijuana
In several states, the Medical Marijuana patient is allowed to grow marijuana
. Depending on rate of consumption, growing your own marijuana makes good financial sense. Doing so also allows you to have unlimited supply of your favorite strain of weed.
Growing marijuana is best done indoors with the use of a hydroponics system - unless you own vast acreage. Hyroponics systems could go as low as $300 to as large as many thousands of dollars. The greatest differences between systems are: 1) the amount of automation; 2) one stage only vs. all inclusive mother plant area, vegetation area and flowering area. The advantages of the latter are essential: by having a permanent mother plant, you have access to unlimited clones anytime them; you can decrease the gap between harvest with the separate vegetation and flowering areas. There are also a few efficient low-end systems in Stealth Hydroponics. Their grow tents are great if you do not have a closet. If you like the Rolls Royce of hydroponics, take a look at BC Northern Lights.
Your natural tendency is going to be to grow as big of plants as you can. Note, however, that this can have a negative effect. Each plant, let it be known, needs at least 3x3 feet footprint. Going below this limit would affect the amount of illumination that gets to your plant. Another problem with trying to grow huge marijuana plants is that if you're not watchful enough, they can grow right past the lights. To ensure that you are on the right track, remember these: (1) during the flowering stage, your plant will grow one and one-halffeet and (2) you should start the flowering process when the plants reach to within 24" of the lights in their highest position. Depending on the strain, this can be somewhere from three weeks to eight weeks from starting with a clone.
The trade secret to success in trying to grow marijuana is to find a source for clones. This shall guarantee that your plant will be female and that it'll survive (the most delicate stage in a plant life is the first two weeks). Once you have a clone, then you are automatically assured of a crop growing all-year-round.
Similar to any other crop, marijuana needs advanced nutrients. Relying on Miracle Gro and other regular fertilizers will not do the job. Good thing that Stealth Hydroponics and BC Northern Lights offer a wide selection of this kind of products. If you follow a rigorous schedule of draining and refilling the water every two weeks and adding nutrients as needed, you really won't fail. Tap water, let set for about ten minutes is more than perfect. Much is made about handling your plants gently and carefully: controlling PH, CO2, humidity, and temperature. Instead of obsessing about this, I've found the reality to be that marijuana is a weed....it takes quite a bit to kill it. One caution on nutrients, do not add the first round until two weeks after you've started your clones in the vegetation stage.
Lastly, about lighting... Lighting is critical in growing marijuana. But you have a range of lights to choose from: silver halide, CFL fluorescent and other high tech lights. They all work just fine. The Flower Spectrum is set in the 2700 Kelvin range, Vegetation Spectrum, in the 6000 Kelvin range. Thus, it is useful to take note of both spectrums; but of course, pay more attention to the one that matches the phase where your marijuana growth is at.
Total time from clone to harvest when you grow marijuana is somewhere around 12 weeks. Yield is around 4-6 ounces per plant.
