As much as possible, go for one that is near your family so that, if something should happen, they can easily visit you. You might also want to consider a retirement community that is a stones throw away from the hospital if your preferred community does not have complete medical facilities.

Lastly, make sure that you would be getting along with the other North Carolina retirement living community residents. You can check this out by paying the community a visit before you sign up. This would also be a great time for you to check the facilities and the amenities.
