, then you have the skills to redecorate your bedroom. Just by finding some great fabric you can transform your bedroom into an oasis. You can construct a number of bedroom furnishings by merely sewing a straight line. Opt for fabrics and patterns that go well together, and then produce your own unique look with bedding and curtains.

Curtains with Straight Lines.

Get started by measuring your windows. To decide how long your curtains should be, measure from the curtain rod to the floor, and then add the depth of the pocket plus 1/2 inch and the hem plus 1/2 inch. To find out how wide you want the fabric to be, measure the width of each window and then add an additional six inches; this will produce one curtain panel. You will need two panels for the window. As you choose your fabric, notice the direction of the print on the fabric, and make sure that it will orient in the room correctly.

As you prepare your panel, first hem the sides of each panel. With the right side facing down, fold one-half inch of fabric towards you and then iron. Next, fold 1 1/2 inches of fabric toward you to make the hem and then iron into position. Next sew a straight line down each panel's edge; this forms the hem. On the top edge, fold over 1/2 inch and iron, and then fold over a pocket for curtain rod. Next iron and sew another straight line on each panel. move to the lower hem, fold the material over one-half inch and then fold over the width of the hem; iron once more. Once you sew a straight line across the bottom hem of each panel, your window treatments are finished. It is really that simple.

Table Skirt with Straight Lines.

To dress up your bedside table, you can cover it with a table skirt. Find a fabric that complements the curtains that you just completed. Lend your room a less cluttered look by using a table skirt to hide items beneath the table. Simply cut the fabric to size, turn under the hem and sew.

Straight Line Bed Skirt.

You can dress up your bed with a bed skirt and disguise under bed storage containers and your unsightly box spring mattress. To make your bed skirt measure the length and width of your bed, and add an inch to each side. Use an old flat sheet to make the base of the skirt. Now measure from the top of the box spring to the floor in order to get the height of the bedskirt and then add an surplus inch for hemming. Cut three lengths of your bed skirt, one for the right side, one for the left side and one for the foot of the bed, and leave a one-inch seam to connect the pieces.

Now sew the three pieces together and then fold under the hem. Iron and sew the hem. Affix the bedskirt to a flat sheet, being cautious to line up the corner seams with the corners of the flat sheet. If you prefer to leave the bed skirt panels open, then you can hem each side before attaching.
