The problem with a three-panel brochure is that texts and images are compacted to fit the small size throwing off the overall design of it. Remember that white space should be taken advantage by designers. Even though it may consume two or three panels (regardless how it is folded), your design can easily stand out with it.

Also, you do not have to be fixated with the tri-folds norm. You can experiment with different types of folds like the half fold, Z-fold, double-parallel fold, right-angle fold or even turn your brochure into a booklet. The possibilities are endless. As long as the design will stand out and will help to the overall brochure design, any folds you choose will do.

8.5-inch by 11-inch Paper Rule

This rule is applicable if you are printing your brochure through your desktop printer. Most amateur designers do not know that they can extend the size of brochure up to 11 inches by 25.5 inches. Consumer will easily see big things and big brochures are not exempted. Remember big things get big attention.


Do not get it wrong by printing the largest brochure available. You have to weigh the size of your brochure and design you are putting on it. Consider using 11-inch by 17-inch brochure design so that it will stand out against its smaller counter parts when it comes to mailboxes and brochure stands.

Bright and Colorful Rule

Though bright colors will get the attention of anyone, but too much of it can put off their attention as well. Some brochures with playful or cartoon images will benefit to that effect. However, there are designs that will need simple colors or combination of only two. You can employ the black-and-white brochure design for the sophisticated elegance image or a single blue or red accent similar to Frank Miller style.

You have to remember that colors plays an important role in designing a brochure. You can head for a full-color brochure design or just a two-tone color mix design. Also, asking yourself if you have put too many colors or if it is too dull can help with your decision. Sometimes, two colors with varying shades can make wonders and even a single color will be enough. This true if is accompanied by colorful images.
