Guided Meditation Works Well For Focus Challeneged People


I have a very hard time focusing and my mind tends to wander from task to task throughout the day. Because of this I have planners and an online to do list that keeps me on track. So it`s no wonder that when I meditate it can be hard for me to do a mantra mediation or focused meditation because my mind starts off on a question I have but quickly wanders to the stupid thing I said yesterday to my neighbour. It just doesn`t make for good meditation. That`s why I use guided mediation.

Guided meditation can be done in a number of ways but I prefer two specific ways depending on how scatter brained I am that day.

If I am having a hard time focusing and feeling a lot of stress on my mind then I use a voice guided meditation. There are numerous people out there that have made cd`s or audio clips that have a voice guided meditation. Wayne Dyer has a few for example.


During a voice guided meditation they generally tell you what to picture and what is happening next in your meditation. Maybe they tell you to go down a long white hall and at the end of the hall is a beautiful garden and beyond the garden you walk to a river. The voice will time it perfectly to help you picture these things happening and help you relax into a state of meditation.

Voice guided meditation can be very effective as it is easier to listen to someone telling you what to do in a relaxing tone then it is to rely on your own thoughts and direction. Your direction may take you over the river and into the to-do list for tomorrow; whereas a voice will help you stay by the river.

Binaural beats is the other guided meditation that I use when I am less stressed and more able to focus. Binaural beats are frequencies that help you mind relax and get to the state it needs to be to be in a calming meditative state. It can help you quickly reach an Alpha state which is generally associated with before bed time and just waking up drowsiness.

There are no words but instead the binaural beats are set behind relaxing music or noises like water running. There are no voices with binaural beats and therefore your mind is left to wander wherever you enjoy being during meditation. You can go to that river or you can focus on a question you want answered right where you are. It`s up to you.

Both are great for guided meditation and both are useful at different times. You just have to know yourself and how hard of a time you are having being focused.
