Guitar Learning Techniques The Teacher Should Establish

As the teacher of a beginner or advanced student of a guitar learning establishment

, it is important to instill some important tips that would make the learning more effective.

As the teacher, it is important to pay attention to the welfare of the student. Teach them the proper posture for playing a guitar as this will prevent pains on the back and spine later on. The playing goes on for hours and if their back stiffen up or cramp, it can be bad for the students.

Before making the student play the pieces, make them do some warm up exercises. These include scales and finger exercises that start out slow and then gradually increasing the pace. Make them practice only for a few minutes until the desired 'warmth' is reached, then proceed.

It is important for the teacher to make sure that the student takes a break every twenty minutes or so. This is good for their bodies and they would have a chance to relieve themselves or even take a drink of water. Guitar playing can be exhausting work. If the lesson stretches for an hour or more, take longer breaks to break the monotony and to give the body a chance to relax tense muscles as well. Encourage the students or the guitarists to do some constructive rest positions and some arm and hand stretches. It is not just the fingers and hands that need stretching, the arms also need the stretching as the position held for a long time could cause the muscles to cramp.

The neck and trunk also need attention. The neck is usually at an odd angle when reading the guitar tab and playing at the same time. Some could develop numbness if they do not get a chance to stretch their neck muscles or to loosen up the spine. Be careful not to crack the spine even if it is tempting.

Encourage other players to do a community massage. This is simply going in a circle and facing each others' backs and massaging the backs of fellow guitar players. The massage can loosen cramped muscles and warm them up after the long sessions. Encourage the students or players to prop their guitars to alleviate the stress on the shoulders. Some use a strap, some just prop them on something else entirely. Whatever it is, it should relieve the body of the weight of the guitar when playing for long hours.

Last, encourage the players to breathe. Sometimes, in the excitement of the playing of a very interesting piece, the players could lose track of breathing as they anticipate a particularly difficult set of chords or notes.

As a teacher it is always important to make sure that the well being of the students or players are paid attention to during guitar learning. If there is a failure on this one aspect, the player could injure themselves unwittingly.
