Guitar Lesson For Kids -- Playing The Guitar While Standing

If you tune into MTV or VH1 a lot on your TV, you'll see a lot of guitarists standing up while they play

. This is especially true if they are playing in concert. But many of these people - well - don't exactly give you a good idea as to how to play while standing - Quite the opposite.

Many times, you will see these people wearing their guitars around their knees. Do yourself a favor and don't imitate them. They are doing that for show - It's part of their "act". Wearing your guitar that low does not allow you to reach down far enough with either hand to play with the best technique.

It's easy to look at that and say to yourself: " Wow, I want to look like that.", but ask yourself one question: Do you want to play well,and as easily as possible, or do you want to look cool? If you learn to play well enough to be like one of those people then you can afford to make that choice. Please remember that looking that way is part of their image, and has nothing to do with giving themselves a chance to play easier.

The best players tend to wear their guitars centering around their waist or slightly above or below. You have to be able to get your left hand completely around the neck of the guitar, and your right hand within easy reach of all of the strings. Some even wear them a little bit higher.

It comes down to a "comfort" issue. Wear it wherever it allows you to play easily and comfortably. Forget about looking cool for now. Learn to play first - Then decide on whether looking "cool" while playing means anything to you. To tell you the truth, the great players let their playing do the talking - not where they wear their guitars.

Besides, you're making music. How much more cool can you be?
