There is some sort of eagerness to play for friends and family during gatherings and this eagerness stems from self-gratification. The willingness to put more effort into learning how to play the guitar builds over time and before you know it, you are a professional.

One of the first things you should find out is whether you know how to read musical notes or not. Guitar playing is similar to any other instrument in such a way that you are expected to know musical notes, and in this case, guitar chords. If you already have a little musical background, this part comes naturally easy. Otherwise, you will have to start from scratch and start with the basics. Get a good chord book in playing guitar for beginners and have someone teach you how to read them.

The next thing is the instrument itself. You will have to have your own guitar. However, before buying one, it is important that you ask advice from your instructor about the kind of guitar you should buy, what kind to look for and why. The guitar you will buy has to fit you perfectly. Purchase only the one that you can afford. Do remember, however, that you get what you pay for.

Practice, practice, practice - this is what succeeding is all about. Generally it should take about 30 minutes a day to master the skill. The longer you practice the better you will become. Your fingers will get accustomed to the chording and the guitar itself. Like shoes and cars, your fingers need some time to break in. Eventually there will be calluses but this is normal. This only means that your skin has become thicker and is now ready to play and be challenged.

Wanting to become a professional or an expert guitar player is not enough especially when you do not put how much you want it into action. Learning how to play guitar for beginners involves a lot of dedication to start with.
